Coverword is a Chrome extension that hides private details (such as names, email addresses, phone numbers and account numbers) in messages you write on ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini before those messages are sent. This policy explains what the extension does with your information.
What Coverword reads
On chatgpt.com, chat.openai.com, claude.ai and gemini.google.com, Coverword reads the text you type or paste into the message box, and the text shown in the conversation, so it can find private details and show placeholders. It does not run on any other website.
Where that text goes
Nowhere. All detection happens inside your browser on your own computer.
Coverword never sends your messages, the private details it finds, or your conversation to any server, including ours. We do not have a server that receives this data.
The list that links each placeholder (for example [EMAIL_1]) to its real value is kept in Chrome's session memory. It is never written to disk and is erased when you close Chrome. You can also erase it at any time from the settings page.
What Coverword stores on your computer
- Your settings, including the "private words" you add yourself.
- Counts of how many items were hidden, by type (for example "4 emails"). These are numbers only, never the values.
- Your subscription status.
This information stays in your browser's extension storage and is removed when you uninstall Coverword.
Payments
Subscriptions are handled by ExtensionPay and Stripe. When you subscribe or start a login, you give your email address and payment details directly to them, not to Coverword. The extension contacts ExtensionPay only to check whether your subscription is active. That request contains an anonymous key for your installation, never your messages.
What we don't do
- We don't sell, rent or share your data.
- We don't use analytics, trackers or advertising.
- We don't use your data to train AI models.
Limits
Coverword reduces what the AI service receives, but it can miss details it doesn't recognize, such as a name with no label in front of it. Add those to your private words list. Anything Coverword doesn't hide is sent to the AI service as written and is handled under that service's own privacy policy.
